So You’ve Enrolled in a Class at Three Bags Full…Now What?! 🍎

Our instructors are excited about sharing their favourite fibre art (or arts) with you; we are proud of the warm and inviting spaces we have prepared for your arrival, and we are confident that the projects and lessons you will work on will support you in this sometimes scary process of learning a whole new craft or levelling up a difficult skill.

And you’ve taken the leap! You’ve looked at all of the classes we have available this term, and you’ve found one that you’d like to take in a time you have available. The hardest part is done, some might say.

Now you have some homework to do before class starts. Take a look at the checklist below and make sure you are ready, so that you can get the most out of your TBF class experience.

You don’t have to do everything at once.

There’s honestly not a lot to do, but we’ll break it down anyway to three manageable steps:

1. Before (or right after) registration.

2. A week (or more) before class starts.

3. The day of your first class.

What to do right now.

Make sure you have the needed skills for the level of class you are taking.

Classes marked, “Beginner,” should be right for you from your very first try at that craft. Anything above that level may need you to have mastered some skills already in order to be comfortable. Look at the pattern and class description to be sure that you’re ready.

You know yourself best, and you know how you like to learn. If stretching yourself and taking challenging steps is best for you, take that into account. If there are 2 or 3 skills you should already have at the beginning of the class and you’ve never tried them, it could be difficult for your instructor to teach you and the rest of your class at the same speed and you might miss out.

If you are almost there but need to practice some things, take a little bit of time to do that now before the class starts, so you can really get the most out of the class you’re in.

Look at our Class Policies and Guidelines.

Take note of the refund, cancellation, and missed class policies before we dive into preparing for the class itself.

One week (or more) before your first class.

Make extra sure you are going to be available at the time of the class.

Secure childcare, transportation, a protein shake, or anything else you can because this time is for you, and missing classes will make it hard for you to get the most out of the experience.

Come into the shop to gather your materials, pattern, and needed tools.

Get your pattern.

We will print out your pattern here ahead of time. If you have a ravelry account, we will purchase the pattern for you and add the digital file to your library there as well.

Pick out your yarn.

Referencing the pattern, we can help you to pick out the right yarn for you. Most classes will have a more economical option, and a slightly fancier option for you here at the store.

Make sure you have the right tools.

Any tools that aren’t included in the class fee should be available at the shop, and we are more than happy to help you find the right type and size for you and your pattern.

Look around the shop.

If you haven’t been into 303 Mountain Road before, take a look around! We can show you the spaces where classes happen, where the bathroom is, and where all of the delightfully addictive yarn lives, so that you know where to go and what to do on your first day of class.

On the day of your first class.

When to arrive.

If the class is held in the evening, note that the shop closes at 5:00 PM. Someone will be there 10 minutes before class starts to open up for the evening.

What to bring.

Bring your pattern, yarn and tools. Luckily you got all of that ready a week ago ;)

Don’t forget this important thing!

Learning can be hard! Being a beginner - especially as adults - can weird and embarrassing and frustrating! Please remember that getting to be a beginner as an adult can also be exciting and invigorating, and kind of freeing.

You don’t need to know what to do, or how to do it best. Our instructors are here to help you - just like our grannies and aunts and moms and friends have helped us to go from beginner to a place where we get to share our expertise with you.

So come ready to learn with all of the messiness and excitement that brings, and know that we are so happy to welcome you into the Three Bags Full fibre art community. We will do everything we can to make it feel like home, while you
